How sunken floors affect your business

Concrete floors can sink from many reasons. Most reasons are poor compaction of the soil before construction; leakage of draining system causing the soil to soften and weaken; and excessive loads of machinery, merchandise, or transport trucks.

When concrete floors sink, the problems that usually follow that affect businesses are ponding on roads that inconvenience traffic, tilting of machines or storage tanks, cracking of concrete; all of which can be hazardous for the staff and the operation.

Lifting sunken concrete floors by PU Foam (Polyurethane) injection

Tesla Engineering provides services for lifting-relevelling sunken concrete floors by injecting Polyurethane or PU Foam into voids. The foam will expand, compact the soil, and lift the sunken floor. High accuracy levelling lasers ensures that relevelling of the floor is precise while experienced engineers oversee every step of the operation.

Lifting-revelling floors by Polyurethane injection

Lifting-revelling floors by Polyurethane injection
is a highly efficient method because the chemical material will permeate into the voids, combine with the soil and rocks, and expand until the floor is lifted.

Polyurethane also known as PU Foam

is a result of a chemical reaction between RESIN and ISO

Advantages of Polyurethane or PU Foam

  • expands as much as 10-20 times and able to lift the sunken concrete

  • hardens within 7-10 seconds

  • can bear extreme weights

  • Inflammable due to fire resisting properties

  • lightweight but high strength

  • Immiscible, therefore leak resistance

Procedures for lifting sunken floors

Obtaining reference points with levelling lasers

Getting accurate level references or the elevation difference is a very important process to obtain data for topographic mapping as well as engineering construction. Tesla Engineering undertakes this operation as the first step in lifting-relevelling sunken floors. The procedure is carried out using high accuracy levelling lasers in order to identify the elevation and tilting direction of the area.

Soil investigation by PENETROMETER TESTING using a Cone Penetrometer

A Cone Penetrometer (Kunzelstab) is a tool for testing the density of the soil, which can penetrate as deep as 10 meters. It is used for collecting soil data under the foundation in order to assess the situation. The tool is driven into the soil by releasing a standard 30-kg weight above. Every 20 centimetres, the density (friction) of the soil is evaluated and converted into the bearing capacity that indicates the amount of load the soil can take.

Working process

Step 1 PU Injection to lift sunken floor

Drill 16-mm holes every 1.5 meters for injecting PU Foam to lift sunken floor

Step 2 PU Injection to lift sunken floor

Inject highly expandable PU Foam into subsurface under the concrete. Check structural movement with 0.5 mm accuracy while the ground is being lifted.

Step 3 PU Injection to lift sunken floor

The expansion of PU Foam can lift loads as high as 50 ton/sq.m. The floor is relevelled with precision.

Step 4 PU Injection to lift sunken floor

The lifted-relevelled area can function normally within 15 minutes.

Advantages of lifting-relevelling floors by Tesla

  • cuts costs for uninstallation, relocation, and re-installation of machinery

  • production and machine operation can continue during the repair process

  • the repair process takes only a few hours

  • no need for new pile installation or demolition of the area

  • can lift-revel floors with heavy machinery as much as 50 ton/sq.m.

  • prevent ponding after sunken floor is lifted

Sunken floors that Tesla can lift

  • factory floors

  • warehouse floors

  • concrete roads

  • parking areas
